Jar Candle Care
At Candles Plus, we love you to get the very best out of your candles so they burn beautifully in your home. These simple care steps will help your candles last longer, burn cleaner, and fill your space with gorgeous scent.
- Let your candle burn until the melted wax reaches the edges of the jar. This sets the “memory” of the candle and prevents tunnelling.
- Before each burn, trim the wick to around 5mm. This keeps the flame steady, reduces soot, and helps your candle last longer.
-
Don’t burn your candle for more than 4 hours at a time - unless it says you can as this protects the wick, preserves fragrance quality, and avoids overheating the jar
- Remove any wick trimmings or debris before lighting. A clean surface ensures an even, smoke‑free burn.
-
Place your candle on a heat‑resistant mat and keep away from drafts, pets, children, and anything flammable. Never leave a burning candle unattended.
-
Use a snuffer to extinguish the candle or gently dip the wick into the melted wax and straighten it. This reduces smoke and keeps the wick centred.
- Most jar candles now have a safety cut off so won’t burn of there is less than 1cm of wax left. If it does burn to lee than 1cm snuff it out to protect the container.
- Keep the candle out of a draft and turn the candle so you get an even burn.
